Dr. Julio Escobar is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Centauri Technologies Corporation, a Panama-based high tech company. He was a research manager for the Advanced Internet Research Group at BBN (USA), the company that developed the forerunner to the Internet.
He has been an evaluator and member of advisory committees for the NSF and DARPA, and has served on the editorial board of the scientific journals IEEE Networks and the Journal of Fiber and Integrated Optics. From 2004 to 2009, he was the National Secretary and then Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation of Panama. He holds a Ph.D. from MIT in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, is a member of the board of directors of the City of Knowledge Foundation, of the National Library Foundation, of the Biodiversity Museum, a founding member of the Venture Club –the only formal angel investors club in Panama-- and serves as advisor to several universities, corporations and organizations.
